The Mark 22-SM receiver is not a cut down low-range mini but a full blown, long range Mark 22 receiver repackaged into a tiny plastic housing measuring only 55 x 23 x 20mm yet retaining all of the classic Mark-22 features. In addition the Mark 22-SM weighs in at a scant 25gm despite being jam packed with a host of features not usually found in R/C units and certainly not found in mini receivers. This receiver definitely sets the pace for single conversion receivers.

From the Dual Gate FET mixer, through the razor sharp IF filter to the quadrature detector, this receiver has been designed for performance plus. A most unusual feature for R/C receivers is the provision of a muting circuit that disables the audio output from the receiver when the transmitted signal drops to below safe operating levels, thereby eliminating extreme servo jitter at low or zero signal levels. This novel feature allows absolutely reliable operation of in-line missing pulse fail-safe modules and prevents servo amplifier, motor and gear damage if the transmitter is switched off before the receiver or operated in weak signal areas. A slicing audio amplifier is used to drive the decoder. This amplifier accepts only the clean, high level portion of the incoming pulse train, rejecting the noisy, low level section of the pulses. The muting feature is further enhanced by a second safety circuit that utilises the enable pin in the 8-channel decoder IC. Upon loss of the incoming control pulses, the decoder chip is completely disabled. The result of this elaborate series of safety circuits is a receiver that delivers rock solid control to the extremes of range yet instructs the servos to remain absolutely still upon loss of signal. A very useful safety feature.

In addition, all Mark 22 receiver modules feature a revolutionary design concept that makes possible the use of almost any popular brand of imported single conversion receiver crystal without fear of the receiver pulling the crystal off frequency, thus causing a loss of range and unreliable performance. In the past it has been necessary to exercise extreme caution when fitting crystals especially to FM receivers, with only the crystals supplied by the RX manufacturer recommended. Now the Mark 22 receiver allows you to use your existing stock of crystals, regardless of brand. (Some restrictions apply) Hitech, JR, Futaba, Beacon, KO, Kraft, Silvertone, Sanwa, Showa etc are all cleared for use in this unique and versatile after-market receiver that will mate with almost all of the popular brands of imported PPM R/C transmitters AM or FM.

To further enhance versatility and reliability, a 5V LDO voltage regulator is fitted that allows operation from 3.3V - 7.4V and long-lead filters are fitted to every channel output in the decoder to eliminate servo jitter from RF pick-up on long servo leads. This last item is a most important point in glider operations. So as you can see, every effort has been made to keep Mark 22 users free of the jitters!

Yet there is more! With true modular construction this receiver has been designed with service in mind. From rapid replacement module service to good old-fashioned replacement of the individual hi-reliability surface mounted components, this receiver has the lot. With built in test points, spacious component layout and readily available service manuals, this receiver is the serviceman’s dream.
